Comedy punch-up for ads and branded content
Your script does the job. It hits the brief, the client's happy with the message, the shoot's booked. It just isn't as funny as it should be. That's where a punch-up comes in.
What a punch-up is
A punch-up (sometimes called script doctoring) is a focused pass by a comedy writer to make a script funnier without changing what it's for. I look for the jokes the script is missing, sharpen the ones it already has, and cut anything that's getting in the way of a laugh.
What you get
- Alternative lines and jokes for the moments that need them, usually several options for each
- Notes on timing, rhythm and where a beat could land harder
- Ideas for visual gags and button endings, not just dialogue
- A clear read on what's already working, so it doesn't get lost
What you don't get
Ego. I'm not there to rewrite your script into mine or to grab a credit. It's a sounding board and suggestions: you keep what works for you and bin the rest.
Good for
- Scripts that are locked on message but flat on laughs
- Social and online content that needs to stop people scrolling
- Comedy-led campaigns where the funny is the idea
- Directors who want a second comedy brain before the shoot
